Welcome to my blog!!! It's been a number of years since I started this blog. Not only do I have hopes of teaching the masses, I too, have learned a lot! There's always new & updated information in the herbal & essential oil worlds. I have lots to say on many subjects including herbs, essential oils, nutrition, supplements, different modalities of healing and just a little bit of everything!! Maybe in reading my blogs, just one person will come away with a bit of knowledge that they might be able to help themselves or another human being, I would consider that to be a great blessing.....

Over the years I have had businesses. It seems I can't get away from seeing if a certain herb or e.o. can help a fellow human and that's usually how it starts. So again as I am in AZ, part time anyway, I was asked again if I would be interested in starting another herbal biz!! So we now have Herbs 4 Health!! Numerous herbal blends....single essential oils...essential oil blends....supplements....tinctures all to help the body to heal itself.

The information in these blogs is not meant in any way shape or form to plagiarize, for I have never said this is all MY work. It is a compilation of reputable informative websites, my 'go to' books I have always depended upon & my own knowledge. I gather & put together information to help people learn & this way they can come back here to help remind themselves of said information instead of 'where oh where did I find that on the world wide web'. Seems to me it's just better & easier.

Cell Salts

I've been interested in cell salts for quite a while wanting to know more about them and how they help in the functioning of the human body. Recently I found a great website with all the info I'd been searching for & I thought I would put it in a blog to share....in case others of you were the least bit curious!

Each cell in the human body is composed of three classes of materials: water, organic matter (sugars and fats), and inorganic matter (minerals). Whereas water and organic matter make up the greater portion of each cell, minerals are still vital for cellular health and reproduction. If there is a shortage of minerals, cellular function is impaired and disease can follow. Mineral deficiency can be caused by poor nutrition, stress, injuries and illness. Cell salts also promote the absorption of minerals from food. Just as we have reflex points mapping our entire body on our ears, tongue, feet and hands, such a map exists in our digestive tract. The cell salts stimulate the reflex points in the digestive tract and, in so doing, promote mineral absorption. Remember....our bodies can't make vitamins without minerals!!

There are 10 basic cell salts. They are in the homeopathic modality of healing.

CALC FLOUR:
Restoring elasticity to veins, muscles, skin, bones and other tissues is calcium fluoride’s function and Calc fluor’s specialty. This cell salt aids conditions resulting from inflexible tissue or tissue that cannot bounce back from injury, pregnancy, growing, aging or illness. These include hemorrhoids, varicose veins, stretch marks, growing pains, backache, lumbago, inflamed joints, loose or decaying teeth and weakness in muscular tissue.

CALC PHOS:
Concerned parents have made Calc phos (calcium phosphate) a popular favorite. Its natural support is ideal for easing growing pains, teething issues, study headaches, fatigue and a general discontentment. At any age its support applies to structural stresses– injured bones, slow healing wounds, joint pain, back pain, weak digestion, acute simple anemia and heavy periods. Key indicators include a desire for change or travel, cravings for fatty, salty foods and an intolerance for dairy products or fruit.

CALC SULPH:
As calcium sulphate is a vital part of our cleansing systems, its cell salt remedy helps us heal wounds, skin disorders, pimples, sore throats and other conditions which tend to suppurate - form yellow pus. Calc sulph helps cleanse colds and allergies if thick yellow mucus causes eye irritation, runny noses and nasal blockage. Calc sulph is most suited to allergic individuals who enjoy walking in the open air, but it can give us all a good cleansing when needed. It can also be the perfect follow up for Hepar sulph or Silica.

FERRUM PHOS:
As its source helps us build strong blood cells, Ferrum phos (iron phosphate) helps the body face many stresses, including inflammations, acute fevers, injuries, blood loss, nose bleeds, heat fatigue, etc. Whenever redness, heat, throbbing or fever, suggest the first stages of acute inflammation (common colds, bronchitis, joint pains, fatigue, skin eruptions, etc.)

KALI MUR:
As its source is critical to breaking down white mucus and discharge (fibrin), Kali mur (potassium chloride) helps cleanse colds, coughs and sinuses troubled by white mucus, as well as thrush, pimples, blisters or eruptions with white discharge. When marked by white spots, white discharge or a white coated tongue, Kali mur’s cleansing applications extend to a range of congestions including sore throats and oral or vaginal thrush, as well as sluggish digestive complaints including heartburn, acidity, gas, diarrhea and sick headaches.

KALI PHOS:
The cell salt nerve and brain cells depend on most, Kali phos (potassium phosphate), helps nerves recover, relax and regain strength. Kali phos offers balancing, revitalizing support when injury, illness, stress or sadness result in a heavy, yet restless fatigue or loss of nerve power. Its nerve calming or debuzzing relief extends to nervous headaches, backache, sciatica, neuralgia and buzzing in the ears, as well as common stress responses – temper tantrums, sleeplessness, nightmares, hypersensitivity, sadness and gloom.

KALI SULF:
Without potassium sulphate, systems stagnate, thus this natural cell salt’s cleansing applications include many conditions with yellow mucus including colds, croupy coughs, sinus or ear congestions, vaginal irritation or diarrhea, as well as skin conditions such as yellow flaky dandruff, skin eruptions or itchy rashes. Other symptoms that suggest a need for Kali sulph include a yellowish coating on the tongue, a sensitivity to heat, shifting joint pains, acute wheezy bronchial irritation, and heavy fatigue with a stuffy or boxed-in feeling.

MAG PHOS:
The simplest, most natural way to ease and prevent cramps, spasms and radiating pains is to encourage the connection between nerves and muscles with the cell salt they depend on. Mag phos is a fast acting remedy that benefits symptoms as diverse as leg cramps, muscle spasms, menstrual cramps, spasmodic coughs, colic and hiccups, as well as backache, right sided sciatica, facial neuralgia, tics, toothache, stabbing headaches and weary nerves. Anytime symptoms improve with heat and worsen with cold, it’s perfectly natural to try this popular favorite. Sipping hot water with a dose can speed its action.

NAT PHOS:
The sodium phosphate in our digestive tracts breaks down stomach acids and regulates bile. When overwhelmed by fatty, bitter or sugar-filled foods and beverages, including alcohol, the body cannot make enough sodium phosphate to handle all the stomach acids needed for digestion. As a result, we get acid symptoms like heartburn, diarrhea, gas, sour belching and a yellow coating on the back of the tongue. Nat phos can ease the crash and headaches of sugar highs. As a safe source for heartburn relief during pregnancy, Nat phos is irreplaceable. Top of the head headaches and sick headaches with sour vomiting find relief in it whether due to morning sickness, dietary excesses or illness.
The sodium phosphate in our muscles keeps them limber and gliding smoothly. When exercise or shock deprives muscles of oxygen, they fill with lactic acid, cramp and stiffen until sodium phosphate breaks down the acids. Thus Nat phos can save hours of discomfort after workouts, weight-lifting or accidents. Sodium phosphate is also critical in our joints, to keep them free of acidic deposits. Thus the remedy supports balancing relief for stiff or inflamed joints. When ignored, acidity leads to sick headaches, fatigue, sluggish sour digestion, stiff musculoskeletal symptoms and head colds with yellow mucus and a painful cough. In any of these circumstances, the cell salt remedy Natrum phos, can help the body find its natural balance of sodium phosphate and acidity. The need for Nat phos' help is most marked by two typical symptoms of acid buildup and resulting congestion: sourness, sour belching, vomiting, sour smelling perspiration; and yellowness, yellow mucus, a yellow coating on the back of the tongue, and yellow skin issues. Nat phos symptoms usually worsen after eating bitter or fatty foods and from mental exertion. Those most in need grow fearful at night and suffer nervous fatigue, indifference and mental dullness. Breaking down stomach acids, lactic acids and acidic deposits is the specialty of this cell salt and its source nutrient. In digestion, it offers balancing relief when fatty or sugary foods lead to sugar highs, heartburn, gas or diarrhea. If muscles and joints cramp and stiffen after shock or exercise, it helps break down lactic acid and relieve pain. It relieves a range of other acidity induced symptoms including: sick headaches, sluggish sour digestion, stiff joints, fatigue and indifference, especially if tongue has a yellow coating.

NAT SULPH:
Sodium sulphate’s cell salt applies to a range of digestive, respiratory, pain and emotional symptoms which are aggravated by dampness, especially cold wet weather or places. Best known for its digestive support, Nat sulph relieves nausea, sick headache, sour vomiting, heartburn, bitter belching, colic, indigestion, diarrhea and a frequent need to urinate. It also benefits headaches, back and joint pain as well as lingering effects of head injuries. Other applications include wheezing, colds with yellow mucus, frequent need to urinate, and periodic sadness.

SILICA:
As many cells need its source for strength, the cell salt Silica helps restore weak tissues that lack the strength to expel or root out congestions and irritants. For skin, it helps eliminate splinters, acne, eruptions and corns. For glands and membranes, it helps the body cleanse sore throats, mature coughs, sinus and ear congestion as well as constipation and diarrhea. Other indications include: pale skin, nervous irritability, timidity, fatigue, a lack of vital heat; weak ankles, skin, hair and nails; symptoms that feel better with warmth and much worse in a cold draft.

Celery.....and we thought it was only good with peanut butter!!!

Celery contains a high level of calcium, magnesium, potassium & active compounds called phtalides, which have been found to lower blood pressure and promote a healthy circulatory system. Celery is best eaten raw & the juice is especially useful for overall good health. It's leaves, seeds & roots can all be eaten. The seeds are particularly rich in iron & vitamins and have anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties.

In Ayurvedic remedies, celery seed is commonly used as a diuretic, since fluid retention aggravates high blood pressure and other problems such as gout, arthritis, pre-menstrual syndrome and congestive heart conditions. It is also said to help in recovering from the common cold, coughs, sinus congestion, respiratory infections, bronchitis & laryngitis.

~Caution should be taken as the celery seed could cause stomach upset or diarrhea, in which case discontinue use. Pregnant women should not take celery seed without seeing a medical professional because of its strong diuretic properties.~

Celery may help in the treatment of arthritis and rheumatic disorders. It stimulates the thyroid & pituitary glands. It is believed to clear uric acid from painful joints.

Raw celery can help reduce high blood pressure even tho it is high in sodium & to act as a tonic for the liver. You can use grated, raw celery as a poultice for swollen glands.

The juice or an infusion of the seeds may be drunk to alleviate conditions such as sciatica. The juice can also help the body adapt to extreme heat conditions as well.

Celery root claims to be an aphrodisiac.

The Awesome Cucumber!!!!

Superfoods are natural foods that have an array of nutrients that synergistically work to together to exponentially expand the individual nutritional components. Many raw, organic vegetables fall into this category. One of the world's favorite superfoods are cucumbers.

Cucumbers are the 4th most cultivated vegetable in the world. Cucumbers are in the same botanical family as melons and squashes. They are considered one of the absolute best foods for the health of the skin, joints, liver, and kidneys. They are also a natural energy tonic with their rich array of phytonutrients and electrolytes.

Cucumbers are loaded with the mineral silica, which is an essential component for healthy connective tissue (muscles, ligaments, cartilage, bone, & skin). It is also full of ionic potassium, magnesium, and vitamin C which give it a powerful alkalizing effect within the body. Additionally, cucumbers are particularly rich in fluids that hydrate the skin, joints, and tissues.

More recently scientists have begun studying the unique lignans found in cucumbers. These lignans include lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol. New research is linking these lignans with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as well as breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancer.

Cucumbers also contain the triterpene phytonutrients cucurbitacins A, B, C, D, and E. These phytonutrients have been the major focus of some extensive research looking deeply into their abilities to inhibit cancer cell signaling pathways.

Fresh cucumbers have been shown to improve anti-oxidant levels within the body and inhibit pro-inflammatory substances such as COX-2 and nitric oxide. The combination of alkalizing elements, electrolytes, and fluids make it one of the world's best foods for enhancing energy levels. Cucumbers are also great for stabilizing blood pressure and stimulating the body's natural detoxification process.

Cucumbers make for beautiful skin

Cucumbers are often used topically to enhance skin function. The natural ascorbic acid and caffeic acid within the cucumber act to prevent water retention in the skin. This reduces swelling under the eyes and helps the skin heal from sunburn, inflammation, and eczema.

Cucumbers are also very effective when eaten and applied topically for removing unwanted cellulite. Cucumbers act to draw out excess fluids and tighten collagen which has the effect of a natural cellulite reduction. Simply eat some cucumber, juice it, and/or place the cucumber on the regions of water retention.

Cucumbers are typically highly sprayed with pesticides so it is necessary to get organic varieties. If conventional is the only option it is best to scrape off the green skin rather than washing. Many of the chemicals are waxy and do not come off easy with washing.

Try dicing up cucumbers and adding some apple cider vinegar, oregano, and pink salt. This makes a quick, electrolyte and enzyme-rich snack to boost energy levels.
